Film Review by Film 4...

Most film reviews have their positives and negatives, and this is certainly one of them.

The above review from Film 4 allows the audience to see what a professional media company thinks about the film "Evan Almighty". Within the article there is a quite a lot of talk about the film's new lead star, Steve Carell. They name him as Hollywood's new "King of Comedy", probably for his notable roles within other comedy films such as "Little Miss Sunshine", "The 40 Year-Old Virgin" and in American sitcoms such as "The Office". The media institution notes that Carell's personality was best suited for the role of Evan Baxter, as he is able to portray his indignant, ass-puckering, nerdiness, and in a way bring the character to life.

The film comes under scrutiny towards the mid-point of the review. Film 4 notes how easy it is to see where the budget of $175 million went in the forms of the digitally-recreated animals, and the recreation of the flood, and questions what the film is trying to portray .i.e. whether it is just a revamped Christian parable about God's love with poop jokes, or if it has any proof whether Hollywood has rediscovered God after "Passion of the Christ".

Talking about the film in a negative way could give the film bad publicity as it is being shown as though the film is just another Biblically-themed comedy flick, with there possibly being a third in store. They say that the film is less ambitious than its predecessor, and more kid-focused, which in a way connotes that the film will bring in more of a younger audience in the form of children rather than an adult audience which its predecessor, "Bruce Almighty" may have done.

However, as an end remark, Film 4 states that the film is sure to leave a smile on the audience's faces due to its undemanding, unremarkable fun.

Film Review by EMPIRE Magazine...

Within the review, EMPIRE states that although the audience may have been let down by the non-return of Jim Carrey, and co-star Jennifer Aniston, the onscreen impact of Steve Carell's character within the first film may have allowed the audience to become familiar with his actions.

Going further on by talking about the narrative of the film being related to two major arenas of current global controversy; religion and politics, the magazine states that it would be impossible for people to get offended by the storyline due to its toothless manner. Within the review, they talk about the different representations within the film; the suck-up John Michael Higgins, and sassy-snide Wanda Sykes (Evan's staff), and his endlessly patient wife (Lauren Graham), this shows that within the film there are many representations, some of which may have not been visible towards the audience.

They make note that Morgan Freeman's role within the film has dwindled down since his appearance in "Bruce Almighty" as the audience don't see much of him, and state that he has almost become foolish due to his leadership of a "self-regarding mass twit-dance" during the end credits.

Film Review by Rotten Tomatoes...

Rotten Tomatoes is a website devoted to reviews, information, and news of movies. This is exactly what they do for the film "Evan Almighty", it is shown through the ways in which they show the audience information about the film; in the forms of a synopsis, genre, list of cast and crew, media institution, release date, and runtime. The website for Rotten Tomatoes also allows its audience to leave comments where they can give their opinions about what they think of the film.

After reading some of the comments left, it appears as though the film has its fair share of positive and negative views. This comes from some saying, that the film is "A comedic disaster of Biblical proportions" and that it is "One very expensive flop", whilst others say that it is a "A FUN comedy of epic Biblical proportions with Carell in fine form" and that it is "Both fun and serious as it bestows its important messages about family, responsibility and the environment". These comments show that the film attracts different types of people with different opinions, however within some comments it appears as though some have more of a fair opinion of what they think about the film, in one comment someone says that it is "Mildly Amusing" whilst in another they say that it is "Entertaining enough to be a big hit, but the script is badly underwritten", showing that they have taken all aspects of the film into consideration and have thought about the overall image that it portrays.

After possibly having seen the comments of which people left on the website for "Evan Almighty", it appears as though Rotten Tomatoes has come to the conclusion that the rating should be anaverage of 5/10 stars, which connotes that it received an average amount of those who liked it, whilst others may have been a bit more indecisive about how they truly felt about the film.

Interview with Tom Shadyac (The Director)...

The video above is of an interview held by Stevie Wong, with the director of "Evan Almighty", Tom Shadyac. This interview is a useful piece of media text as people are able to gain an insight as to why this film was made, and what Tom's ideas were behind some of the scenes used within the film. Within the interview, Tom Shadyac talks about the film giving back to the community, as it somehow manages to portray the current issue of "GOING GREEN" to save the economy, as a result of this issue being raised it would be a good interview for people to watch as it may make them more aware of the current issues that surround our environment in the present day.

He goes onto talk about why he wanted Steve Carell to be cast as the protagonist within the film, and states that he did so because he knew Carell would be able to "carry" a movie after having seen him star as the protagonist in "The 40 Year-Old Virgin". Stevie Wong (the interviewer) goes on to ask Shadyac what it was like working with animals, possibly assuming that he may have said that it was hard, however as the interview goes on Shadyac states that he was comfortable with working with animals as he had done so before when directing the film "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective", and found it somewhat easy.

As a result of having seen this interview, more people will become more aware of the film and may want to see it, which as a result shows that this interview is able to promote the film.

Interview with Steve Carell (Evan Baxter)...

The video above is of an interview held by Stevie Wong, with Steve Carell, who plays the protagonist of the film "Evan Baxter". This interview is a useful piece of media text, as viewers are able to gain an insight and find out about how Steve felt about being in this sequel. Within the interview, Wong asks Carell what it was like being told that he would be the lead character of "Evan Almighty", to which Carell responds by saying that he had a mix of emotions. His answer towards this question could connote that he didn't expect there to be a sequel, let alone him being the lead character.

Possibly knowing that he stars in the American sitcom "The Office", Wong asks Carell whether he feels any differences towards being on TV and being in Movies, many actors/actresses will be able to relate to Carell's answer of this question as a lot of them are in the same position as him and sometimes feel the strain of having to deal with this sort of case. Carell also talks a lot about his experiences working with animals, and what it was like filming some of the scenes which made this film humorous.

This interview allows the audience to listen to Carell's side of what it was like to be in "Evan Almighty" and also to find out how he felt about playing the protagonist in a film of which he never thought would be made.
